Traveling South – Part 1: FAMILY

I didn’t watch the BET Awards last night so I have ZERO commentary on that event. Instead, I was inching my way back across the Mason-Dixon line leaving Mississippi heading North to freedom  to Indiana.

Some of you regular readers (thanks!!) may recall the post I did about my grandfather’s passing in April well this particular family reunion involved a visit to the city where my grandfather grew up:  OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI.

For now I will keep this short as I have to verify some more information but this much I do know:

My Great Great Grandparents:

Hardy Avant & Fannie Buford Avant

My Great Grandmother:

Louella Avant Blake

My Grandfather:

Hartie Blake, Sr

My Mother:

Gladys Blake Muhammad-Ward

And ME!!!*

Crescent Muhammad

*Yes I included a headshot, why on earth wouldn’t I?? ;-)
