Throwback Thursday – “We’re Not Young”

I know I know, I may need a new title for this section ’cause sometimes the material doesn’t qualify as “throwback” but Thursday is definitively video day. Maybe ”Video Thursday”? That sounds terrible, so umm no. Hmmm…

ANYway, this one has “throwback” elements because well it’s for people in their 30s*. I’m still not on purpose admitting that I’m in that group (dodging lightning as I type) but let’s just say I GET IT and this video is simply OUTSTANDING!

*maybe I will keep the title the same and keep coming up with these tenuous a*s explanations as to how the content fits with the title – which is way more fun.

Hopefully you are familiar with the song “We Are Young” by Fun. featuring Janelle Monae. IF you are not, the original is below so you can watch it first and then watch the parody but I’m telling you right now my friend the parody is EXCELLENT!

The Parody - ”We’re NOT Young”

The Original – “We Are Young”

I totally don’t understand the breaking of the bottle over the girl’s head. She didn’t throw her phone at him so wtf? Is this a generational thing?? Also it looks like that is a different girl getting hit with a chair at the end of the video outside on the sidewalk – again unprovoked. Seriously WTF??? Violence against women is funny now? Yes, I get that what ensues is a bar fight BUT showing women getting cracked over the head by dudes RANDOMLY is NOT ok. Damn, now I’m mad. Breathe.

Calming down in 1, 2, 3…and exhale…

Geez. Alright, moving on, here’s YOUR real throwback stuff - songs about being young that came out when you actually were young. Hahahahaha.  ;-)

(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) – The Beastie Boys

“Never Grow Up” – Peter Pan

Yeah I included that one, I sure did. Hey, I don’t know how old you are or what you remember – just trying to cover my bases, that’s all, make sure there is something for everyone. And yes I am laughing as I type this. :-)

I mean, it’s like they’ve been surveilling me for the past 7 years, and decided to write a song about me.

Seriously. This is the fu**ing story of my life. While I thoroughly enjoyed viewing it, and nearly coughed up a lung while doing so, I was slightly depressed for a few moments when it ended.

On a different note, I’m gonna need Janelle to literally “let her hair down,” and incorporate some color into her outfits. I carry a small spray can of paint just in case I encounter her on the street in Hollywood. The paint is a bright purple color.

Kudos to her for being featured on the song. Although, were it not pointed out so blatantly, I’d have no idea she had anything to do with this. Her absence would not have changed anything. Again, kudos for getting something for nothing, Janelle.

At least I got health and dental. Won’t be purchasing a gun just yet.

LOL!!! Loves you to pieces I do! And yes, having health AND dental is significant. It’s rough out there.

Re Janelle – Right. Had NO CLUE she was a part of the magic. See videos do still matter. Also, if u so happen to get an opportunity to use your spray paint please snap a picture before her security snatches you up. Oh yeah and then call me so I can come pick you up. ;-)

After I watched it, I re-stocked my liquor supply. I don’t know, it just seemed like a good thing to do.

Wow. I love the parody. Hadn’t seen it. Lawd I done seen some of myself in that damn parody too! I’m with you Antwane! Plus I started a damn blog and haven’t blogged in over a month! ARGH! Thanks for sharing. This was great!

Lol. I FELL OUT laughing at the “starting a blog” reference. Do you know how many of us have started blogs this year??? I didn’t feel as bad about that one because I’ve been on this ‘i need a platform to run my mouth’ ish before blogging was ever a word BUT was – ahem – too “busy” to move on it. And yes you can interpret “busy” as “lazy” ;-)
