This isn’t real throwback material because I think to qualify as “throwback” the material should be at least a decade old. Right? Well that’s my opinion so I’m going with it. Still, at this point this is somewhat oldish news but there are still some jokes to be mined here so let’s dig in.
Quick recap: Mary J. Blige (whom I love dearly forever and for always) did a commercial for Burger King. She was one of 4 celebrities to do so, the others were David Beckham, Salma Hayek and Jay Leno. Initially all the commercials were made available at the same time on BK’s site and then Mary’s got pulled, rather quickly I might add. Also initially it wasn’t exactly clear why it got pulled and then someone (internet super sleuth people) got a hold of it and made it available to everyone (world wide web) and then allllllll the black people who saw it were like “oh, IT’S OFFENSIVE – that’s why it got pulled.” Alright maybe not allllll the black people, personally I thought it was HIIIIILARIOUS but I don’t think that’s what they were going for exactly which is too bad because that would have made a lot more sense. BK said that it got pulled because of a “music licensing issue” – sure sure, whatever.
Update re the recap: Burger King has apologized, Mary has apologized AND says she didn’t approve that as the final version (okay) and of course Wendy Williams had a few things to say as well.
Below are a few videos I came across that I found highly amusing. The original commercial is at the bottom – have at it.
Video #1 - This video breaks down the commercial from the very beginning, frame by frame #HYSTERICAL. Be forewarned it’s a bit long. Go with the first 4 mins, after that he gets a little raw with some of his commentary. As you will soon see he’s a bit much…
FYI – somewhere around 9:15 he mentions how he actually feels sorry for BK employees because people are going to start showing up and ordering Crispy Chicken Wraps a la Mary J. Blige style. And you know what? He’s right – see Video #5.
Video #2 – Just knowing that Huey Freeman (Boondocks) and the crew from The Proud Family were a part of this sketch was enough for me to give it a thumbs up:
Video #3 (last minute addition) – So00oo while I was looking up a few more links and tidbits of info to share on this subject I came across THIS spoof. THIS spoof has (a) real black people playing the role of Huey, i.e., mad at the world, but really mad at black people in general and specifically EXTRA mad about this d*mn commercial and (b) THIS spoof highlights EXACTLY why MANY black people found the commercial offensive. Hell, it even took me out of my “i thought it was funny” vibe for a minute. Seriously my mouth dropped open and I cringed. #ouch
Moving on…
Video #4 – Disclaimer – the rest are not as awesome but still extremely enjoyable (and not cringe worthy). I’m still trying to recover from what I just watched. Sigh.
Video #5 – The guy that was referenced around 9:15 in the first video - here he is:
Just good ole fashioned ridiculous.
Video #6 – And now for the original:
I’m done.

The dude at the drive thru was frickin HILARIOUS!!
I love how the BK employee was like “I can’t hear you sir, can you repeat your order please?” and he just kept giggling. Comedy
Too funny…and I love this blog! Keep it coming
Thanks Ralinda!!
What be in dem crispy chicken wraps?! I can’t! Love it Crescent!
