And we can all pretend as though this never happened…
Even if you’ve only been glancing at headlines or catching snippets of information on the news you should be aware that Shady Republican Nominee Romney is getting hammered about two things: (1) his final departure from Bain Capital and (2) his refusal to release more of his tax returns.
1. Bain Capital – The primary issue is when did he cease to be a part of major decision-making at Bain. I’m not going to go in-depth here because (a) it is hella convoluted, (b) in the grand scheme of his record these particular details are not as important as the bigger picture of corporate doublespeak and the general stink of “murky” dealings on his end and (c) other articles have done a much more thorough job.
In a nutshell, Mitt himself has stated that he “ended his day-to-day management role at Bain” in February 1999 when he left to run the Olympics. However…
… reported evidence shows that Romney was listed as the CEO, chairman and president of the company after 1999 in documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission; took a six-figure salary; signed corporate documents related to major and minor deals and attended board meetings for at least two Bain-affiliated companies. The state document was filed two and a half years after Romney now says he retired from the company, demonstrating his deep and ongoing connection to the firm. (Huffpo)
And the reason why when he left is an issue because…
At stake is whether Democrats can hold Mr. Romney responsible for a series of now-controversial investments Bain made during the period in question, including in companies that specialized in outsourcing, laid off some of their workers or declared bankruptcy. (NYT)
Granted, it actually does make sense that he still maintained some type of role at the company he founded, especially since he apparently left so abruptly to jump on board the Olympic train, BUT, the fact that this whole conversation about his departure is SO DAMN MESSY is really the key issue. It just seems suspect as hell and thoroughly undermines his already extremely shaky credibility.
2. Add that issue to his obstinate refusal to release additional tax returns (see videos below) and it’s like ‘seriously dude what exactly are you hiding??’ “Tricky Dick” Nixon did not get that nickname because he was a stand up guy. He earned it and boy was that a low point in American politics.
Per usual, The Daily Show put together an EXCELLENT assessment of the bullshit he’s pushing. Take the time to watch Parts 1 and 2. Man oh man is that dude a piece of work.
AND then the Obama Campaign also came out with a one two three punch fo dat ass!
“What Is Mitt Romney Hiding?”
Even other Republicans are like “DUDE! RELEASE THE RETURNS ALREADY!!”
Seriously did ya’ll peep that ish? John McCain saw 23 years of Mitt’s tax returns and decided to pick the moose killing, unwed pregnant teenage daughter having, I can see Russia from my porch claiming, Alaskan wild card SARAH PALIN as a running mate. Dang son!
“RELEASE ‘EM!”
Seriously, this guy is bad news for everybody.
