“I’ll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry’s come back.” -Mitt Romney
American people, you cannot SERIOUSLY consider voting for a man who lies as easily as he breathes. Please I BEG of you, don’t do it!!
I understand a significant number of you have to vote Republican no matter what – it’s like a blood pact you made with Beelzebub. I get it. AND I realize that some of you may secretly occasionally vote Democratic but you’re still racist and believe that Obama is the bogeyman and is secretly plotting to sell America to Africa. Sure, sure. You don’t like him. Period. We get it. So yes you would probably have zero issues with voting for the Big Fat Liar Candidate. Although you could do me a favor and just not vote. Would you at least consider that option? Okay, thanks.
Also, I understand there are a significant number of you who voted for Obama four years ago and are feeling a little let down. Yes he campaigned on Hope and Change but he was naive, he didn’t really know what he was getting into – which honestly only a former vice president could really know what it’s really like in advance - so he once he was elected he had to adapt, compromise, make some difficult decisions but he did NOT campaign on how he singlehandedly saved the universe from Megatron which, as far as I’m concerned, is the equivalent of Mitt Romney saying he saved Detroit.
The Auto industry was in BIG trouble, it was end of the world bad times for them. There was a lot of talk from a lot of people about what to do. A few options were:
- let the private sector (you know like a Mitt Romney type or a Bain company type) step in and take over, or
- let the car makers go bankrupt, or
- give the car makers some bailout dough.
ROMNEY unequivocally stated that they should go into bankruptcy. Period. In fact his New York Times op-ed essay was called: “LET DETROIT GO BANKRUPT”. Catchy title huh.
“IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.”
What Happened: Ignoring Romney’s proposal, in 2008 President Bush agreed to a temporary bailout and then handed off the problem to his successor President Obama. The OBAMA ADMINISTRATION then came up with a solution that essentially combined two options – a managed bankruptcy that included more federal aid and imposed a boatload of conditions regarding management and innovation.
By the way, with regard to the private sector coming to the rescue - they didn’t.
The Result: GM is back on top, jobs were saved and the government got repaid its money ahead of schedule. Sounds like a win win for everyone – so much of a win that Romney has decided to get in on the action. Next he’s going to claim that it was his bullet that took out Osama Bin Laden. Bananas.
An Editorial from The Detroit Free Press acknowledges there is “a grain of truth” in Mitt Romney’s claim that GM and Chrysler survived because of the restructuring that was carried out in U.S. Bankruptcy Court because as acknowledged above he was one of the early proponents of that strategy AND eventually bankruptcy was part of the solution that saved the day.
HOWEVER, to take that “grain of truth” 10 steps further and “take credit” for the industry getting back on its feet is COMPLETELY LUDICROUS!
Look if the fact that he’s a compulsive “stretcher of the truth” doesn’t bother you how about the fact that he’s CRAZY?!? Seriously people – Do. Not. Vote. For. This. Guy.
