First, I want to acknowledge that I am immeasurably blessed. I got a chance to pay it forward twice this weekend and it reminded me of how often others have looked out for me without hesitation. I have an incredibly supportive family and an amazing circle of brilliant, talented, funny and just damn awesome friends. I am grateful and humbled by their love and respect. Thank you.
Second, to say that these are trying times is a gross understatement. We are witnessing an attempt to dismantle all that makes our country great. We are witnessing an attempt to roll back the tremendous gains our collective ancestors fought so hard to achieve. The speed at which this is occurring is deliberate. The chaos is deliberate. They want us tired. They want us to stop paying attention. We cannot. There is far too much at stake. Some of us will fight back loudly and with very choice words (ahem). Some of us will do God’s Work and attempt to reasonably talk to those who still don’t see it yet. Some of us will be in the streets. Some of us will hold down jobs and help fund the continued resistance. Some of us will post incessantly on social media, helping to spread to word via the digital community. Some of us will employ humor to help lighten the mood. Everyone has a role to play. We will not always all agree on every issue but I hope that we can remain united in one key goal – saving our great union from destruction. “I, too, am America.”
